Department Summary

Ole Miss Athletics is seeking an Associate AD for Sport Psychology to direct and oversee day-to-day clinical operations of the Sport Psychology Department.

Role Summary

Plans and implements the activities of the University Counseling Center through the supervision of assigned professionals.

 

This position will direct and oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the sport psychology department in Athletics. The incumbent will identify mental strengths and weaknesses that contribute to or affect an athlete's performance; advise and treat student-athletes with mental health conditions; develop mental strategies that enable student-athletes to overcome setbacks or injuries; and provide supervision, guidance, and direction for support staff.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Conducts evaluations and provides student-athletes with individual, group, or team therapy and psychological counseling related to their mental health.
  • Oversees compliance with ethical standards, rules, and regulations by assuring that clinical services comply with university, SEC, and NCAA guidelines as well as federal and state mental health and privacy laws.
  • Provides strategic planning and oversight of psychological services provided to student-athletes. Consults with coaches regarding mental health needs when appropriate
  • Develops policies and procedures for implementation of clinical services including crisis assessment, intervention, and individual and group counseling related to the sport psychology department.
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports related to sport psychology services provided to student- athletes.
  • Manages outside referrals of student-athletes for mental health-related needs.
  • Oversees the use of external consultants by teams who may fall into the category of wellness, performance, psychology/coaching, or motivational speaking.
  • Directs programming developed and implemented by the sport psychology department. Acts as a representative of Ole Miss Athletics in areas of mental health. Serves as a liaison to external providers, the SEC, the NCAA and the community.
  • Provides oversight, guidance, and direction for all sport psychology staff.
  • Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with department, University, Southeastern Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Manages the activities of assigned individuals within the counseling center.
2. Provides mental health and psychological counseling to the University community.
3. Consults with students, parents, faculty members, and staff members regarding individuals of concern. 
4. Provides supervision of staff and graduate assistants.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: (3) Three Years Experience Including Supervisory Experience 

 

Licensure:

Incumbent must be licensed or eligible to obtain full licensure as a mental health professional

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

Four (4) years of experience related to the above described duties.
