Title: Automotive Engineer, Interiors, Mechanisms

Location: Michigan MI (Onsite Role)

Contract position

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop advanced mechanisms for automotive interior components to enhance functionality and user experience while aligning with our design philosophy.
• Innovate new mechanisms to improve usability and maximize interior space efficiency.
• Integrate mechanical systems with electrical and electronic components to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Create user-interface mechanisms that meet top-tier haptic requirements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanisms, providing guidance to other engineers.
• Conduct kinematic and dynamic analyses to inform the design process.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including industrial designers, electrical engineers, software developers, and manufacturing specialists to ensure successful integration of interior mechanisms.
• Define product requirements, develop specifications, and create test plans to guarantee product reliability and robustness.
• Build prototypes of new interior mechanisms and conduct functional testing under various conditions.
• Take ownership of the product development cycle from concept to production, ensuring end-to-end success.
• Work closely with testing teams to assess the performance, haptics, ergonomics, and durability of mechanisms.
• Manage supplier relationships to ensure compliance with design specifications during the production of interior components.
• Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving design or production challenges.
• Stay current with industry trends, innovations, and technological advancements in automotive interior design and mechanism development.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in designing and developing automotive interior systems.
• A minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with mechanisms such as Air Vents, Storage Solutions, Door Handles, Sliding Roofs, Seat Rail Covers, and Sun Visors.
• Exceptional expertise in mechanism design from other industries may substitute for automotive experience.
• Proficient in gears, motors, hinges, linear and rotary actuators, dampers, linkages, and cams.
• Experience with kinematic analysis using Catia and stack-up analysis of mechanism assemblies.
• Proven track record of managing the product development lifecycle from concept to production.
• Strong understanding of integrating mechanical, electrical, and software elements within vehicle architecture, with a foundational knowledge of mechanics, electronics, and material selection.
• Familiarity with interpreting modal analysis, finite element method analysis, and computer fluid dynamics simulations, along with the ability to define optimization steps.
• Knowledge of manufacturing technologies, including injection molding, stamping, casting, and extrusion.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
