Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Fabrication Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing customer product fabrication orders and reviewing associated drawings, with a focus on enhancing production techniques to optimize fabrication processes. This role involves utilizing CAD/CAM and 3D parametric software systems to design parts for production in advanced automated machinery. Additionally, the position ensures adherence to quality standards and manages project elements within the production quality management system.

CORE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct and supervise fabrication drafting technicians, machine operators and other fabrication personnel to ensure quality product.
  • Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and proposals to oversee and guide the production of fabrication drawings, applying specialized methodologies and techniques.
  • Review data to select materials and determine fabrication requirements, ensuring efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders to discuss estimates, resolve issues, and provide expert recommendations.
  • Support Customer Service, Project Management, Engineering, and Sales teams with order review, entry, and scheduling.
  • Develop, update, and refine drawings for construction, machinery, and assembly projects.
  • Create CAD/Revit/SolidWorks/Inventor drawings and convert technical drawings into 3D parametric parts and assemblies.
  • Maintain project timelines by tracking progress, coordinating activities, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Implement an appraisal system that defines responsibilities and performance standards for team members and sets individual goals and targets.
  • Regularly observe and assess team member performance.
  • Be the point of contact for Quality Management System and keep records of all QMS programs.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes and machine capabilities to ensure effective production.
  • Program various machines for sheet metal applications and inspect finished products for accuracy and quality.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting and analyzing data, recommending actions based on trends.
  • Review customer orders for engineering feasibility, completeness, and suggest modifications as needed.
  • Provide pricing guidance for standard and custom products.
  • Maintain familiarity with construction product specifications and guide drafting personnel on new drawing creation.
  • Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations to uphold product and company reputation.
  • Contribute to team objectives and complete additional tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or architecture required; PE license or Architect’s license preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, and Inventor, with a strong understanding of drawings and specifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication techniques, software, and database management, as well as familiarity with sheet metal fabrication machinery such as press brakes, lasers, plasma cutters, punches, and welding equipment.
  • Advanced skills in 3D parametric software (minimum of 5 years' experience), along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills, initiative, motivation, and the ability to make sound judgments and anticipate issues.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and build long-term customer relationships.
  • Resilience under pressure and ability to meet deadlines.
