Job Description

Position Overview:

A Medical Records Technician (MRT) plays a key role in maintaining the integrity and security of patient health information. This position is responsible for organizing, reviewing, coding, and safeguarding medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations. The MRT works collaboratively with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and organize patient medical records.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical documentation.

  • Assign and classify codes (ICD-10, CPT) for diagnoses and procedures.

  • Process patient and legal requests for medical records in accordance with privacy laws.

  • Update records in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  • Verify and cross-check patient information for accuracy.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state healthcare documentation standards.

  • Support audits and inspections by providing relevant records.

  • Collaborate with providers, IT teams, and insurance companies to resolve record-related issues.

  • Troubleshoot EHR-related issues and assist in optimizing digital record systems.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Epic .

  • Experience with Rightfax .
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Solid understanding of HIPAA and healthcare privacy laws.

  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Familiarity with Medicare , Medicaid , and private insurance requirements.

Education & Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum : High school diploma or GED.

  • Preferred: Associate degree or certification in Health Information Management (HIM), Medical Coding, or a related field.

Additional Info:

  • Pay range: $20-24/hour
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:30AM to 5PM
  • Location: 100% Onsite in Minneapolis
  • Type: Temp 1 Month+
