Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to determine project requirements and deliverables.
  • Develop detailed scopes of work for I&C systems, networks, and projects.
  • Lead design teams for I&C systems on medium to large-scale projects.
  • Create PLC SCADA networks for various system sizes, ensuring they meet design standards.
  • Specify industrial fiber optic systems, networks, and components.
  • Design block diagrams for SCADA networks and configure control systems.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation for projects, ensuring compatibility and efficiency.
  • Prepare and review P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) for various projects.
  • Develop effective control strategies to optimize system operations.
  • Design layouts for control panels and electrical systems.
  • Produce ISA data sheets and specify instrument site locations.
  • Develop comprehensive input/output point lists for system interfaces.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for instruments, networking equipment, PLCs, and related components.
  • Estimate construction costs, both preliminary and final, for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Facilitate client workshops to define instrument preferences, develop HMI graphics, and create design standards.
  • Design and implement radio telemetry SCADA systems using various communication technologies like microwave, spread spectrum, and cellular.
  • Mentor and train junior Instrumentation Engineers to enhance their technical and professional skills.
  • Write technical memorandums and reports detailing design processes and decisions.
  • Manage the instrumentation and control systems of medium to large water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Conduct thorough quality management reviews to ensure designs meet internal and external standards.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing refinement of I&C master specifications.
  • Develop project-specific specifications for unique or specialized instrumentation needs.
  • Balance competing project demands while adhering to schedules and client requirements.
  • Oversee a team of engineers and CAD technicians, delegating tasks and ensuring quality control.
  • Ensure effective task completion by checking the quality and timeliness of team deliverables.
  • Solve complex tasks through consultation with other team members and experts.
  • Actively participate in client meetings and support business development initiatives.
  • Assess and recommend actions for alternatives, helping the project progress effectively.
  • Make informed decisions in a timely manner, considering project needs and long-term goals.
  • Simplify complex engineering concepts for easier understanding and communication with stakeholders.
  • Review and prepare calculations, drawings, and specifications with great attention to detail.
  • Monitor project scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Implement and enforce company and client standards on engineering projects.
  • Travel as needed for site visits, observing construction and operational progress.

Qualifications:

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience : 10-15 years of experience in I&C systems design for water and wastewater treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Licensing : Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • Expertise :
    • In-depth knowledge of designing industrial I&C systems and selecting instruments.
    • Expertise in industrial communication networks for water and wastewater facilities.
    • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and developing P&IDs and control schematics.
    • Experience in designing and implementing industrial communication networks for control systems.
    • Ability to manage medium to large projects with minimal supervision and attention to detail.
    • Skilled in developing instrumentation and control system budgets, schedules, and scopes of work.
    • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking abilities for instrumentation and control design.
    • Proven communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
    • Familiarity with managing client relationships and ensuring their needs are met.
    • Ability to handle pressure and uncertainty while remaining composed.
    • Skilled in using MS Office tools (Word, Access, Excel) to create and present documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education : Master's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience : Familiarity with MicroStation or AutoCAD software for design work.

Pay Range:

$120,000 to $180,000 annually
