About the Role: UPS Industrial Services is seeking skilled and experienced Welder Lead to join our team. The ideal candidates will be based locally in the Chalmette, LA area. Theis person installs pipe hangers and fabricates piping spools from spool sheets and isometric drawings. Welds various types of materials required by process of SMAW (stick) and Tig. This is a local maintenance project and does not pay per-diem so the ideal candidate must live within 50 miles of Chalmette, LA. The shifts are 5x8's Monday - Friday.

Requirements:

• Must be able to pass drug screen.
• Must be able to pass background check.
• Must have a valid TWIC card.
• Must be able to pass a physical and PFT/FIT test.
• Must be committed to safety and quality

Responsibilities:

• Installs pipe hangers.
• Fabricates piping spools from spool sheets and isometric drawings.
• Flame cuts pipe to length and bevels, cleans and prepares pipe for fit-up
• Performs layout, rigging and transportation of pipe, valves and fittings.
• Welding test.
• Weld various types of materials in all positions

Job Duties & Essential Functions: :

• This position is a field position requiring daily travel to, through and in field construction sites, in outdoor ambient conditions, including extreme weather, uneven surfaces, heights and locations where chemicals and flammable materials are being used, processed and treated, approximately 100% of the time.
• This position is a physically mobile position, requiring the ability to navigate within a construction and manufacturing environment, as well as an office environment.
• Must be able to lift, carry and manipulate at least 45 pounds consistently.
• Must be able to drive a vehicle;
• Accurate and clear vision and hearing.
• The position requires the use of a phone and computer, requiring sufficient digital manipulation skills to utilize a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone and numerous tools.
• Sufficient body dexterity to bend, stop, and reach for or otherwise gather tools, construction materials and office materials and equipment on an ongoing basis.
• Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time, as well as stand for extended periods.
• Ability to maintain a clear, understandable speaking voice, capable of communicating vital business information to internal/external contacts.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to push/pull 100 pounds occasionally.
• Capable of lifting heavy loads throughout the day up to 75 lbs.
• Use repetitive hand motions.

Equipment Used

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, View Point, SharePoint and PowerPoint).
• Proficient with using the telephone, copier, scanner and printer.

Qualifications and Experience:

• High School diploma, or equivalent.
• Welding certification or equivalent preferred.
• A minimum of 5 plus years manual TIG/ MIG welding experience.
• Ability to read prints, WPS, and work instruction to have clear understanding of the approved manual welding process.
• Ability to read and understand x-ray films.
• Experience welding of stainless and carbon steel metals required.
• Ability to weld groove welds in the 1G position.
• Experience working in a fast-paced work environment and meeting production metrics.
• Must be a team player.
• May be required to pass a craft test

Working Environment:

• Indoor/Outdoor/Plant Environment
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
