Accounting Manager

San Diego, CA/Hybrid

Schedule: Standard Office Hours

Duration: 3-Month Contract

Pay: $75-80/hr

How You Will Make an Impact

The Accounting Manager will oversee various accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial processes. This role involves handling partner invoicing, fixed assets, cash and investments, R&D, SG&A, and outsourced manufacturing contracts, as well as managing prepaids, royalties, and leases. The position requires strong financial expertise to apply proper accounting treatment, reconcile balance sheet accounts, review journal entries, and support financial close activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train, develop, and mentor direct reports in accounting tasks.
  • Oversee vendor setup in accounting software and AP platforms.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes, including preparation of schedules for quarterly reviews, audits, and tax returns.
  • Manage accounting for R&D, SG&A, and outsourced manufacturing contracts, collaborating with project managers and vendors for monthly expense accruals.
  • Review and approve journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Oversee fixed asset transactions, including additions, disposals, depreciation entries, and construction in progress.
  • Manage lease amortization tables and approve lease entries.
  • Supervise treasury functions, reviewing cash and investment entries.
  • Track and review deferred revenue entries and reconciliations.
  • Act as the system administrator for Blackline (account reconciliation software).
  • Support SOX 404 compliance, including updating narratives for prepaid expenses and fixed assets, and working closely with SOX consultants and auditors.
  • Prepare reports and handle special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Minimum 8 years of general ledger and accounting experience.
  • 3+ years of management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • CPA license and experience with a "Big Four" public accounting firm preferred.
  • Prior experience in a public company, SOX-compliant environment, and exposure to multinational companies preferred.
  • Background in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry in a financial capacity is highly preferred.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
